DESCRIPTION:On January 10\, 2026\, Laramie Elks Lodge #582 is hosting the Annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at the Laramie Community Recreation Center\, 920 Boulder Drive.  The Hoop Shoot is FREE and open to Boys & Girls Ages 8 to 13.  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the contest beginning at 10:00 a.m. \nThrough the Hoop Shoot program\, the Elks have been unleashing grit for more than 50 years.  Local winners have a chance to compete at the State Competition in Casper\, Wyoming and potentially the National Hoop Shoot Competition in Chicago\, Illinois\, in April.  Regardless\, the Hoop Shoot journey begins right here in Laramie\, Wyoming.  We hope to see you there on January 10!  \nFor more information\, please contact the Laramie Elks Lodge at 307.742.2024 or email the Lodge Secretary at laramieelks582@gmail.com.

Dave Marcum will present a program about the History of Pole Mountain Including Military Installations. The Pole Mountain area of the Medicine Bow National Forest is located north of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne in Albany County. While we currently know the area primarily for recreational use and the uniqueness of its terrain\, in the past the area was utilized by the military. Dave will present an overview of various military activities that occurred in the Pole Mountain area from 1900-1970. Free admission. Everyone is welcome! Refreshments will be served.
