SUMMARY:UW Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER FOR THE FESTIVAL: https://docs.google.com/…/1Mun87XxRemtaxbt1PJL…/edit…\nConcert tickets for patrons will go on sale in January.\n\n\n\n\nOur goals for the UW Jazz Festival are simple: great music with outstanding and positive jazz education. These simple objectives promise to make this an enlightening and enjoyable experience for students\, teachers\, and audience members.\n\nWe are very excited about this year’s festival featuring the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, who will perform for our evening concert February 25 @7:30 p.m.!\n\nJohn Clayton\, Jeff Hamilton\, and Jeff Clayton founded the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. While in their twenties\, John and Jeff Hamilton toured and recorded with Monty Alexander\, then moved on to separate big band environs. Jeff joined Woody Herman and John signed up for Count Basie.\nAll along\, Jeff Clayton had been performing and recording in Los Angeles. In 1986\, the three men came together in L.A. and formed the Jazz Orchestra. In 2020\, Jeff Clayton passed away after a lengthy illness. The CHJO reminds audiences that his spirit remains in every note that is played. The excitement of this powerful 19-piece band is the result of the band’s stellar performances and John’s writing.\n\nTheir music is composed and arranged by John\, and it is not unusual to hear his take on a composition by Jeff Hamilton or something from the Hamilton trio book.\n\nAlong with multiple Grammy© nominations\, the orchestra is featured on recordings with Milt Jackson\, Diana Krall\, John Pizzarelli\, Charles Aznavour\, Ernie Andrews\, Barbara Morrison\, Natalie Cole and many more.\nFrom 1999-2001\, they were the in-resident jazz orchestra for the Hollywood Bowl. Their busy schedule still finds them touring the U.S.\, Europe and Japan\, often premiering extended works at jazz festivals and in concert halls.\n\nPeople often describe their sound as being influenced by Ellington\, Basie and Thad Jones. This would never be denied by the orchestra\, but one listen lets you know that their voice is unique\, distinct and impactful.

SUMMARY:Kyle Tran Mhyre "Guante": Of What Future Are These the Wild\, Early Days? On Poetry\, Protest\, and Possibility
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for our upcoming event with poet and activist Kyle Tran Mhyre “Guante” on April 24. There will be a morning meet and greet from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the Wyoming Union Skylight Lounge. Then Kyle Tran Mhyre “Guante” will speak from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. This event is free and open to everyone. We are hosting this in partnership with the University of Wyoming Violence Prevention Center \nStorytelling\, art\, and poetry can be powerful doorways into dialogue and critical thinking\, especially about issues related to how we move through the world\, how we treat one another\, and what narratives drive our values\, beliefs\, and actions. Just as a poem uses imagery and metaphor to “zoom in” on complex ideas\, building the community that we want to live in takes more than knowing the right terms or even believing the right things. We have to find ways to work together and make our values real in the world.
