Kyle Tran Mhyre “Guante”: Of What Future Are These the Wild, Early Days? On Poetry, Protest, and Possibility

Mark your calendar for our upcoming event with poet and activist Kyle Tran Mhyre “Guante” on April 24. There will be a morning meet and greet from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the Wyoming Union Skylight Lounge. Then Kyle Tran Mhyre “Guante” will speak from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. This event is free and open to everyone. We are hosting this in partnership with the University of Wyoming Violence Prevention Center
Storytelling, art, and poetry can be powerful doorways into dialogue and critical thinking, especially about issues related to how we move through the world, how we treat one another, and what narratives drive our values, beliefs, and actions. Just as a poem uses imagery and metaphor to “zoom in” on complex ideas, building the community that we want to live in takes more than knowing the right terms or even believing the right things. We have to find ways to work together and make our values real in the world.
